CURRENCY & SHOPPING

The Argentine peso is weaker than the dollar and the euro, generally 4 pesos equal one U.S. dollar and a little bit more than 5 pesos make one euro (check the exchange rate because it varies significantly).

Most shops accept payment in dollars and credit cards.
Many also offer tax free purchases which can add up to hefty refund collected at the airport on your way home.

LANGUAGE:

The Argentinean (and Uruguayan) dialects of Spanish are distinct from traditional Castilian and even other Latin American variants of Spanish... Argentines use vos instead of tu to say you They also pronounce the letters y and ll as sh. But don’t let this trouble you because most Argentines in tourist and urban areas speak English, at a minimum... some speak several languages such as Portuguese, Italian, French, German... etc.

SEASONS:

We are now in the southern hemisphere so summer runs from December to March and winter from June to September. The ideal time to travel is from September to June, avoiding the cold months of July and August. Although these are ideal for skiing on the beautiful slopes of Ushuaia Villa Langostura Chapelco, Bariloche. December is the most festive month, a favorite of all Argentines. It is a combination of the beginning of summer, the end of the work year, the end of the school year, Christmas and New Year all wrapped in one month. Everything is a joyful celebration of life. No matter how we have done this year, the next will be better! All we think of is celebrating, all our energies go to planning and throwing parties. And we party hard: in Spanish we say tirar la casa por la ventana which means "throw the house through the window", you get the meaning.
