Los Glaciares National Park, where Perito Moreno is located, was created in 1937 to preserve the natural wonders of this part of the Southern Patagonian Andes. The National Park's 6,000 square kilometers encompass a zone of extreme weather changes and varying landscapes making it unique in the world. These unique properties combined with the presence of endangered animal and plant species prompted UNESCO to declare Los Glaciares National Park a protected World Heritage site in 1981.
Our excursion begins in El Calafate and after a journey of 80 km we reach the scenic lookout in front of the Perito Moreno glacier. Here we find observation platforms at different levels and angles connected by catwalks allowing visitors to examine this stunning work of nature from different vantage points. The magnificence of the glacier is punctuated by the unforgettable sight of huge ice blocks cleaving and falling into the turquoise waters of the Lago Argentino lake below.
The Nautical Safari is an optional addition to the excursion which allows you to get up close and personal with the glacier. It is an hour-long boat ride on the Brazo Rico branch of Lago Argentino that will take you as close to the Perito Moreno glacier’s south wall as possible.
What to wear:
Sunglasses, sunscreen, warm and comfortable clothes, waterproof jacket, gloves and comfortable shoes.
Nautical Safari (optional)
The Nautical Safari is an optional addition to the excursion which allows you to get up close and personal with the glacier. It is an hour-long boat ride on the Brazo Rico branch of Lago Argentino that will take you as close to the Perito Moreno glacier’s south wall as possible.

| This excursion takes you on an hour-long cruise across Lake Rico, passing by icebergs which have calved from the face of the Perito Moreno glacier. Reaching the Iceberg Channel, the boat will sail along the face of Perito Moreno providing a totally different perspective of the glacier allowing you to experience it with all your senses. This is aunique opportunity for photographers and nature lovers alike. Embarkation takes place at the Bajo de las Sombras port. A minibus provides transportation between the port and the main boardwalk in front of the Perito Moreno glacier. From October through May there are hourly departures starting at 10:00 and up to 15:00 approximately. From June through September there is only one daily departure at 12:00.
